Experience Chinese Culture Like Never Before at the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival
If you would like to experience the best of Chinese culture right here in New York, be sure to attend the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival this August! This colorful multicultural tradition paddles back to Flushing Meadows Corona Park on August 11th and 12th.
This beloved festival gets its name from the roughly 180 dragon-boat teams from around the world that come to race on the Queens park's lake. Back on shore, expect plenty of traditional food and live entertainment, martial arts demonstrations from the monks of the Shaolin Temple, lion dance performances, Chinese crafts and children's activities. Races take place throughout the day.
The festival began in 1990 when the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York City promoted and organized the inaugural Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York, which was held on the Hudson River in Battery Park City. The festival is now an independent non-profit company organized under the laws of the State of New York and receives its funding through sponsorships by various companies.
This event will be held rain or shine.
